In the year 2012, ORCA brought the
attention of the world revealing the
largest mass stranding, or unusual
mortality event, of dolphins ever
recorded in the American continent. The
press attention focused in Peru and the
dolphins for several months as never
before an issue took so much interest
for the media: the lethal effects of
acoustic impact in cetaceans; but not
everything was bad news...that same year
ORCA revealed the presence of Southern
right whales in Lima coast, as well as
we multiple releases of rehabilitated
sea-lions, one release to be an special
remark of the Bolivarian Olympic Beach
Games for the first time in Peru. In
2013, denounces of negative human impact
upon the ocean continued, so ORCA
decided to revert the effects by "giving
7 days of your life to the ocean", the
slogan of the first Lima Ocean Week, in
order to multiply the positive effect of
humans upon the ocean; this year, we
released six South American sea-lions at
the same time, for the firs time, in
Peru.
